I'd love to keep my pet project, but I have two new projects waiting in the wings, so it's time for the new owner to enjoy the looks of surprise in the rearview mirror...
The donor car was a 1983 Mustang GT convertible. The engine was completely rebuilt, bored and balanced, with NEW TRW hypereutectic pistons and a new Competition Cams hi-lift camshaft. The valve train has roller rockers and the heads were completely rebuilt with new valves and seats.
Interestingly, though the Futuras and Zephyrs look bigger than the Mustangs, most of that is a carefully-engineed illusion. And this Zephyr weighs 400 pounds LESS than the donor car, and even less than Mustang coupes, giving it an edge in the power-to-weight ratio.
Has only 38,000 miles since the complete power train rebuild. Have all receipts and maintenance records.
The paint is very good, but there are a few small nicks in the front of the hood, and on the lower panels behind the rear wheels. There is also one small dent from an errant shopping cart (grrr!) on the passenger door. Did not chip the paint.
The top of the dash is pristine! I have had a cover on it so it has never seen much sun.
The left rear taillight lens has a repaired crack and a broken corner (see photo). All in all, pretty good condition considering the year. A lot of fun at a fraction of the cost of doing it yourself.
